The last dictionary in the series is level 3.2. It contains about 3000 words of the total of about 3800 used for study in America's Phonics. As a student reaches the end of 3.2 the nature of study moves on to composition where the meaning of words and how they are used becomes the focus. It is intended that students make a transition from our special dictionaries to commercial dictionaries. We believe the best choice is the "Children's" from American Heritage and it would be well that every student of level 4.1 and 4.2 have one available. It has about 13,000 entries (so it's hardly a child's dictionary) and it sells for less than $20. With the practice of using a dictionary well established in the earlier levels of America's Phonics, we believe a student is well on the way to mastery of the English language.
